The Dream Team

It’s something that all of us have thought about: if you could pick any players in the world, what would your dream team be and what formation would you play? Here are some of the best players, and a dream team put together of what I think would be the perfect dream team.

Goalkeeper
There are some world-class keepers around at the moment, but getting someone with the perfect balance of skill, experience and commitment is hard. The shortlist would consist of Casillas, Valdes, Buffon and Cech. The top keeper would have to be Buffon, he always give 100% whenever he plays, and can pull off some real top-class saves, which he has done for both Juventus and Italy on numerous occasions.

Defence
The defence is vitally important to the team. At left full back it would come down to Patrice Evra and Phillipe Lahm. Lahm is younger and more skilful than Evra, although Evra is extremely fast. The centre backs are the key to a team, and it’s important to have a mixture of youth and experience there. Because of this, Nemanja Vidic and Fabio Cannavaro would be the perfect combination with Zambrotta at right back. I know there are a lot of Italians in it, but after all, the Italians are No. 1 at defending!

Midfield
This is a difficult decision because you have both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi who can play on the right. However Ronaldo can also play on the left, so that would have to be the case for this team - with two attacking players, it will be important to have a midfielder who can do a more defensive, holding role. De Rossi is one of the best and most passionate tackling midfielders and would be a great partner for Kaka, who would provide a more attacking threat. That would give the midfielder some real stability and skill.

Strikers
Up front it would be better to play one striker behind the other with such an attacking team. As the front man, Sergio Aguero, the Argentinean wonderkid, would be first choice: he’s fast, skilful, a great finisher, and he has done fantastically well at Athletico Madrid this season. Behind him Robinho would be perfect: he can pass through the eye of a needle, and has real pace and finishing ability. Playing behind the striker would also give him some creative freedom.

So, Buffon, Lahm, Vidic, Cannavaro, Zambrotta, De Rossi, Kaka, Ronaldo, Messi, Robinho and Aguero. It may not be everybody’s idea of a dream team, but you can’t simply pick 11 attacking players and have Ronaldinho in goal! This team could have a real shot at cleaning up in every competition. It has the mix of youth and experience as well as skill and stability. It’s an attacking 4-4-1-1 formation, with Messi and Ronaldo on the wings, so it’s almost a 4-2-4.
