Hats Off to These Self-Made WAGs

Most WAGs step into the glittery world of show business because of their hottie footballer husbands or boyfriends. It is a refreshing break to find WAGs who have carved a niche by themselves and became famous in their own right.

Victoria Beckham, for instance, the socialite and fashionista wife of soccer superstar David Beckham, already found fame as Posh Spice in the singing sensation, Spice Girls. The glamorous Mrs. Beckham claims she is driven and that her success, money, and high profile are products of her hard work. Of course, Mr. Beckham pitches a little something in too. Mrs. Steven Gerrard, Alex Curran, is definitely a class act with her stint as a Daily Mirror columnist and her successful modelling career. She also launched her celebrity fragrance in 2007. Who knows what she's up to next?

Manchester United WAG, Coleen McLoughlin, wife of football big gun Wayne Rooney, also has a lot on her plate juggling between being a housewife, a columnist in the celebrity mag Closer, a fashion guru, a commercial model, and an author. Her autobiography, Welcome to MY World, sold like hotcakes when it hit the shelves. She is reportedly eyeing a five-book publishing deal with HarperCollins. How lucky can one get? There’s Cheryl Ann Tweedy who, even before her marriage to Chelsea’s Ashley Cole, was named “Sexiest Footballer’s Wife” by FHM. Ashley is a member of the British pop group, Girls Aloud. She is also a judge on the reality show, The X-Factor.

This just goes to show WAGs are not synonymous to trophy wives and girlfriends of English footballers.
