Hammers Manager Keeps Mum on Ferdinand; Avoids Sunderland Bid Queries
Alan Curbishley, Manager of West Ham United, has chosen to keep mum despite news of a bid for central defender, Anton Ferdinand. The former Charlton manager has stated that he wants to keep Ferdinand in the club, refusing to confirm or deny queries on a bid for Ferdinand. An offer from the Black Cats is said to have been considered by the English defender, according to Skysports.com. Ferdinand made his entry into the West Ham United club as a trainee in December 2002. Opening the 2003-04 season, Ferdinand made his full debut with a 2-1 victory at Preston North End. He later won the January 2006 “Premier League Player of the Month” award.
Sunderland has been strongly linked with Ferdinand on a reported move to the fellow Premiership club. Curbishley, however, has expressed his desire for Ferdinand to remain in the club and that he doesn’t want to lose the talented defender. He added that the regularly selected international of England Under-21 will still be part of his plans.
In a statement given to Sky Sports News, Curbishley remarked that Ferdinand has kept himself fit and in top shape for the whole week. "That is as far as it goes for me. At this moment in time, he is a West Ham player. Yes, I would like to think [he will be a West Ham player in just over a week's time].” "No [I don't want to lose him]," the Hammers’ manager added.
