A look at some of the major Sky Sports programming

Sky Sports has exclusive rights to broadcast sporting events taking place in Ireland and the UK. It is fair to say that football is its main draw. In fact, since 2001, Sky Sports has entered into a deal (exclusive) with Ford in regards to their broadcasting of football matches.

Much of the success of Sky Sports can be attributed to its ability to telecast live action from the English Premier League. In fact, it would not be wrong to presume that Sky Sports was founded around providing coverage of English football, and its growth has been closely associated with the public’s demand to see Premier League action.

However, Sky Sports also shows a lot of Football League action – especially after ITV Digital’s dramatic collapse in the year 2002. So if you are interested in following League Cup action or the lower division football action in Great Britain then Sky Sports should be your favourite channel.

Sky Sports also shows National Conference action, which is the premier Non-league Football action.

Sky Sports also has the right to broadcast (from 2003 onwards) UEFA Champions League action. Of course, it broadcasts these events along with ITV, who previously had the sole right to cover such football events.

Sky Sports also airs the FA Cup, Internationals and Spanish La Liga football action. Other than that, it also broadcasts Rugby League action, Darts, Rugby Union, Boxing, Cricket, Motor Racing, World Wrestling Entertainment and NFL (National Football League) action.
